A unique introduction to the concepts of quantum mechanics, Quantum Evolution addresses the present status of time-dependent quantum mechanics for few-body systems with electromagnetic interactions. It bridges between the quantum mechanics of stationary quantum systems and a number of recent advanced theoretical treatises on various aspects of quantum mechanics. The focus is on strongly-quantum and semi-classical systems, including the quantum manifestations of orderly and chaotic nonlinear classical dynamics.

【原文書】 書名:Principles of Quantum Mechanics 2/e 作者:R. Shankar 出版社:Kluwer Academic Plenum Publishers ISBN:9780306447907 About this Textbook Reviews from the First Edition: "An excellent text … The postulates of quantum mechanics and the mathematical underpinnings are discussed in a clear, succinct manner." (American Scientist) "No matter how gently one introduces students to the concept of Dirac’s bras and kets, many are turned off. Shankar attacks the problem head-on in the first chapter, and in a very informal style suggests that there is nothing to be frightened of." (Physics Bulletin) Reviews of the Second Edition: "This massive text of 700 and odd pages has indeed an excellent get-up, is very verbal and expressive, and has extensively worked out calculational details---all just right for a first course. The style is conversational, more like a corridor talk or lecture notes, though arranged as a text. … It would be particularly useful to beginning students and those in allied areas like quantum chemistry." (Mathematical Reviews) R. Shankar has introduced major additions and updated key presentations in this second edition of Principles of Quantum Mechanics. New features of this innovative text include an entirely rewritten mathematical introduction, a discussion of Time-reversal invariance, and extensive coverage of a variety of path integrals and their applications. Additional highlights include: - Clear, accessible treatment of underlying mathematics - A review of Newtonian, Lagrangian, and Hamiltonian mechanics - Student understanding of quantum theory is enhanced by separate treatment of mathematical theorems and physical postulates - Unsurpassed coverage of path integrals and their relevance in contemporary physics The requisite text for advanced undergraduate- and graduate-level students, Principles of Quantum Mechanics, Second Edition is fully referenced and is supported by many exercises and solutions. The book’s self-contained chapters also make it suitable for independent study as well as for courses in applied disciplines.

The Solvay Science Project and the First Quantum Revolution (1版)

【簡介】 This book presents a historical reconstruction of the first quantum revolution, from the first Solvay meeting (1911) to the fifth Physics Council (1927). The reader is guided through a journey to discover how a project envisioned by Ernest Solvay -- the Solvay Science Project -- contributed to this process. The authors investigate two of its main aspects: the five Physics Councils chaired by H A Lorentz and the subsidy programme of the International Solvay Institute of Physics (ISIP). Special attention is given to a point that escaped the attention of most science historians: how Solvay subsidies, granted by an International Committee, contributed to the validation of Bohr’s atomic theory, one of the most significant steps in the quantum revolution. More than ten beneficiaries of Solvay grants were named by Bohr in his Rutherford Memorial Lecture; six were awarded a Nobel Prize. The book contains a detailed analysis of the steps taken by ISIP’s Scientific Committee to prepare the Councils that marked the transition from classical to quantum physics. Emphasis is placed on the information provided by X-ray research and by C T R Wilson’s cloud chamber, two elements that paved the way to a recognition of the dual nature of light and matter, a fundamental characteristic of the quantum world.

The first industrial revolution was accompanied by the emergence of the School of Engineering, the second brought about the School of Electrical Engineering, and the third digital revolution led to the School of Information. It is now obvious that the change in this quantum revolution must lead to the emergence of the School of Quantum Science and Technology. Quantum technology can develop comprehensively through the integration of science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM). In 1925, Heisenberg developed the Matrix Mechanics, cracking the mysteries of the Quantum world. Coinciding with the 100th anniversary of Matrix Mechanics, in 2024, the General Assembly of the United Nations proclaimed 2025 the "International Year of Quantum Science and Technology," along with a year-long initiative celebrating the profound impacts of quantum science on technology, culture, and our understanding of the natural world. This book outlines the importance of the "Second Quantum Revolution," introduces quantum computers, quantum communications, and quantum sensors, and then provides a framework for the emergence of the quantum Internet of Things. What basic quantum literacy should modern citizens have in this era? The "Second Quantum Revolution," where quantum knowledge and engineering technology are once again combined, will provide faster, more effective, and more sensitive quantum facilities to accelerate cross-field exploration, and will also make human life more comfortable and convenient than ever before. In the "First Quantum Revolution" in the 20th century, humans learned quantum science from nature and used existing materials to make quantum components. In the "Second Quantum Revolution" in the 21st century, humans further used quantum science to construct quantum engineering. We now make materials and components that are not found in nature and assemble new quantum machines to benefit mankind! This is the stage of a glorious quantum era, which is a hundred times more brilliant than the past classical physics era.

【簡介】 This book provides a comprehensive exploration in the fundamental physics of the non-relativistic atom in terms of its symmetries. The book gives a complete treatment of the dynamical symmetries of the H atom and the use of these symmetries to determine energy levels and analytically calculate the first order radiative Lamb shift using group theory. Understanding radiative shifts is critical since measurement of the Lamb shift led to the development of quantum electrodynamics. The harmony between the mathematics and the physics is emphasised throughout the book. Through the lens of symmetry, it is possible to elucidate key features of the H atom is a way that is elegant, simple, and focuses on fundamentals.Understanding the hydrogen atom has been the gateway to the development of quantum physics for over 100 years. Both quantum mechanics and quantum electrodynamics were discovered by exploring the spectra of the H atom. This book outlines the key mathematical and physical behavior of the H atom, and its historical context, that led to these discoveries. The quantum behavior is related to the corresponding classical behavior and to the harmonic oscillator, the other fundamental central force system. Understanding the H atom, the most basic physical system, is a gateway to understanding much of quantum theory.

【簡介】 The book is based on a one-semester lecture course that the author taught at Charles University for more than ten years, as a follow-up to an introductory basic course. Its contents corresponds to an intermediate level of quantum field theory, and includes topics like regularization and renormalization methods, Cutkosky rules for imaginary part of loop diagrams, infrared divergences in quantum electrodynamics, renormalization group techniques, basics of quantum chromodynamics including the connection between unitarity and ghosts, asymptotic freedom, ABJ axial anomaly and trace anomaly. This book is aimed at any reader who has mastered techniques for evaluation of Feynman diagrams in field theory models up to the one-loop level. The accent is on detailed explicit calculations of tree-level and one-loop Feynman diagrams in quantum electrodynamics and quantum chromodynamics. In particular, the chapters devoted to the ABJ anomaly cover both its ultraviolet and infrared aspects, and display computational details in an extent not quite common in other competing texts available in current literature.
