詳細資訊

Recent increasing awareness of the ways in which vibrational effects can affect low-gravity experiments have renewed interest in the study of thermal vibrational convection across a wide range of fields. For example, in applications where vibrational effects are used to provide active control of heat and mass transfer, such as in heat exchangers, stirrers, mineral separators and crystal growth, a sound understanding of the fundamental theory is required. In Thermal Vibrational Convection, the authors present the theory of vibrational effects caused by a static gravity field, and of fluid flows which appear under vibration in fluid-filled cavities. The first part of the book discusses fluid-filled cavities where the fluid motion only appears in the presence of temperature non-uniformities, while the second considers those situations where the vibrational effects are caused by a non-uniform field. Throughout, the authors concentrate on consideration of high frequency vibrations, where averaging methods can be successfully applied in the study of the phenomena. Written by two of the pioneers in this field, Thermal Vibrational Convection will be of great interest to scientists and engineers working in the many areas that are concerned with vibration, and its effect on heat and mass transfer. These include hydrodynamics, hydro-mechanics, low gravity physics and mechanics, and geophysics. The rigorous approach adopted in presenting the theory of this fascinating and highly topical area will facilitate a greater understanding of the phenomena involved, and will lead to the development of more and better-designed experiments.

DESCRIPTION The first book to provide a comprehensive treatment integrating finite-time thermodynamics and optimal control, giving an overview of important breakthroughs in the last 20 years. It presents a survey of the optimization technique, including the basics of optimal control theory, and the principal thermodynamic concepts and equations. In addition, it covers the solutions of a variety of finite-time thermodynamic problems, including coverage of their potential applications for the design of real technological processes, such as: * heat-exchange systems * mass transfer and separation processes * commodity exchange as a finite-time thermodynamic process * heat-driven mechanical processes with one or several reservoirs. This is a key resource for chemical and mechanical engineers involved in power systems and process engineering. Researchers in theoretical, physical and industrial chemistry in academia and in industry will also welcome this book for the fresh perspectives that offer new ways to design and analyze a wide variety of processes. This self-contained book is an up-to-date description of the basic theory of molecular gas dynamics and its various applications. The book, unique in the literature, presents working knowledge, theory, techniques, and typical phenomena in rarefied gases for theoretical development and application. Basic theory is developed in a systematic way and presented in a form easily applied for practical use. In this work, the ghost effect and non-Navier–Stokes effects are demonstrated for typical examples―Bénard and Taylor–Couette problems―in the context of a new framework. A new type of ghost effect is also discussed.

【簡介】 Thermal Design Discover a new window to thermal engineering and thermodynamics through the study of thermal design Thermal engineering is a specialized sub-discipline of mechanical engineering that focuses on the movement and transfer of heat energy between two mediums or altered into other forms of energy. Thermal engineers must have a strong knowledge of thermodynamics and the processes that convert generated energy from thermal sources into chemical, mechanical, or electrical energy ― as such, thermal engineers can be employed in many industries, particularly in automotive manufacturing, commercial construction, and the HVAC industry. As part of their job, thermal engineers often have to improve a current system to make it more efficient, and so must be aware of a wide array of variables and familiar with a broad sweep of systems to ensure the work they do is economically viable. In this significantly updated new edition, Thermal Design details the physical mechanisms of standard thermal devices while integrating essential formulas and detailed derivations to give a practical understanding of the field to students. The textbook examines the design of thermal devices through mathematical modeling, graphical optimization, and occasionally computational-fluid-dynamic (CFD) simulation. Moreover, it presents information on significant thermal devices such as heat sinks, thermoelectric generators and coolers, heat pipes, and heat exchangers as design components in larger systems ― all of which are increasingly important and fundamental to numerous fields such as microelectronic cooling, green or thermal energy conversion, and thermal control and management in space. Readers of the Second Edition of Thermal Design will also find: A new chapter on thermoelectrics that reflects the latest modern technology that has recently been developed More problems and examples to help clarify points throughout the book A range of appendices, including new additions, that include more specifics on topicscovered in the book, tutorials for applications, and computational work A solutions manual provided on a companion website Thermal Design is a useful reference for engineers and researchers in me chanical engineering, as well as senior undergraduate and graduate students in mechanical engineering. 【目錄】
