本書以第二版為基礎，新增第十章偏導數及第十一章重積分。其中第十章偏導數介紹全微分定義原由，以及連鎖律與全微分一體兩面之有趣關係。第十一章介紹重積分，在換變數法中，延續前章全微分、結合第九章向量外積、體積，引導出著名的雅可比行列式 (Jacobian determinant)。
將微積分所需用到的基礎數學一起編入微積分課程中。函數是微積分主要的研究對象，本書先完整介紹一般函數，然後再討論其極限。而對三角函數、反三角函數、指數函數與對數函數也依此方式進行。函數與極限介紹完後，再進入微分與積分。
盡量用直覺的方式介紹定理，避免嚴格的數學證明。
針對某些數學與微積分中重要的定義與符號，對其定義的原因、以及符號的使用等特別加以說明，譬如微分、積分、內積、外積等。
在面積與體積的計算中，強調積分是一種廣義的加法，並可將此觀念帶入重積分的學習。
